As a part of MANCC’s Embedded Writers Initiative, I joined Kota Yamazaki and his collaborators while developing the final piece in his Darkness Odyssey trilogy. Darkness Odyssey Part 3: Non-Opera, Becoming is inspired by writings of authors Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, and Butoh pioneer Tatsumi Hijikata’s notion of “dance of darkness.” With an idea of the fluid nature of human subjectivity and identity, performers engage in the state of "becoming." Inspired and influenced by each other's presence, co-existence is formed in a foggy and hazy landscape.

While at MANCC, I worked closely with their staff as a living archives consultant, reviewing their existing moving image archive, strategically planning how to move forward to benefit not only the archive, but artists’ practices and the dance field at large.
